Wonderful Team Member Readership Award

January 26, 2013 By Amanda

wonderful-team-readership-award1

Thank you to the Kat & The Falling Leaves for nominating me for the Wonderful Team Readership Award. Her site, full of mouth-watering Ukrainian dishes combined with her lust for life is a true pleasure to read.

The Beginning

When I created this website as a labor of love toward cooking, learning and creativity, I had no idea about the channels it would open up for me. I discovered other cooking websites, each distinct in writing style, personality, cooking style and photography. I discovered a community rich in insight, encouragement and culinary tips. I also learned how to see beauty differently. There is such beauty in simplicity and every day things like a fruit or a fish or a half eaten burger, or precious natural light. I’ve been pushing my culinary boundaries beyond my comfort zone and across cultural borders. I never expected that in writing, I’d be reading so much and that in reading I’d become engulfed in a sea of knowledge and begin to see and engage with the world through so many different lenses.

Courage and Results

Whenever you put yourself out there in a meaningful way and present a version of yourself that people may not know, it is an act of courage. If you’re doing something that motivates you, displays persistent intellectual curiosity and compassion without expectation you may actually be amazed at the ways in which your efforts will be dignified and rewarded.

A Great Reader

A great reader is someone who approaches everything he or she reads with curiosity, intelligent feedback and interacts with the material with a longing to know more. A great reader has the ability to be critical, open, intimate and suspend disbelief for the sake of being moved.

I’m going to bend the rules a bit here. I will simply list and link for you some of the sites I’ve been reading and leave out the big ones that no longer need accolades, but I will not bother them with the obligations and the rules, just the honor.
